Our History

Tortworth caters for up to 105 pupils aged 4 – 11. The main school building dates back to 1796 with the later addition of 3 temporary buildings.  The school is set in the beautiful surroundings of Tortworth estate and Lord Ducie maintains a significant role in the life of the school as a foundation governor. The main school building houses administration offices, library, staffroom, school hall, toilets, kitchen and classroom one.

The three temporary buildings house our two other classrooms and a parent/community and intervention/library room. We are fortunate to have a generous playing field, enhanced by an adventure play area, tarmac playground, quiet garden and an outdoor learning classroom.  We also have use of a wildlife/pond dipping area as you approach the school just off the drive.

Our school governors are dedicated to maintaining a general oversight of school matters, including curriculum, premises, finance and personnel. All parents are members of the Tortworth Parent-Teacher Association led by an enthusiastic and hard working committee. The school seeks opportunities to play an active and significant role in the life of Tortworth community and have close links with the local church.
