Tortworth VC Primary School is situated in the spectacularly beautiful hamlet of Tortworth, with excellent links to the motorway network and close to Thornbury in South Gloucestershire as well as Wotton under Edge in Gloucestershire.
Our children live in the surrounding villages and are all transported to school; we are unusual in that there are no footpaths leading here! Some children qualify for a school bus, which is again quite unusual for primary pupils. Even the youngest pupils use the bus happily and quickly become very independent.
Our school lies on the estate of Tortworth and we have close links with the farm, the shop and the Ducie family.
We are part of a supportive local Small Schools Network and often take part in joint activities for example sporting, creative and academic events, where it is beneficial to join with larger groups of pupils and teachers. We host an annual country dancing event on our field and often have up to 9 local schools here, all performing country dances!
The atmosphere of a small school feels very caring and the rural setting is important to me.
