Support with reading at home
Time 4 Reading
We have already achieved the Time 4 Reading Bronze Award and we are now working towards the Silver Award. During Term 1 and Term 2 we managed to read more than 50% of the Top 100 Books to Read at Primary School. Well done Tortworth Primary School!
Reading Challenge 2018
We have now set ourselves another Time 4 Reading challenge: to read 500 books in 2018. Every time you finish a book, write your name and the name of the book on a sticker and stick it on the Totaliser in the hall. Let's see if together we can read 500 books!
In Term 4 we are starting Reading Champions. The children can collect points for good reading behaviour such as working on their phonics, asking and answering questions about what they read with you, writing a book review or book recommendation or visiting their local library and we will record it on a chart in the classroom. When they get to 30 points they get a bronze award, 60 points a silver award and 100 a gold award. We will give you some Reading Champion Wow notes to write down any good reading behaviours that you see at home, so please send them in.
World Book Day
We had a very wintry World Book Day on Thursday 1st March and had to close the school after lunch due to the weather. Even so we had a great morning with fantastic dressing up as book characters from the Tiger who Came to Tea to Bilbo Baggins to Spiderman to Oddsocks!
We had some great entries to our two competitions to design a book cover or to make a 'Book in a Box' - winners and runners up to be announced on Monday 5th March.
We spent the morning on a variety of activities inspired by a wordless picture book Journey by Aaron Becker. There was drama, art, music and a little bit of writing as well as lots of talk and asking questions.
Photos of World Book Day to follow soon.
