Sport at Tortworth
We place a high importance on participation in all sport for all of our children. As well as experiencing high quality teaching in their P.E. lessons, we offer a range of before and after-school clubs that give our pupils the chance to develop a wide range of sporting skills, improve their general fitness and learn how to work well as part of a team.
As part of the curriculum every child takes part in a minimum of 2 hours of physical education every week. We aim to inspire every child to enjoy physical activity and to find a sport or activity which they enjoy. Therefore we offer many opportunities for success.
Here are some of the activities that we currently offer : Swimming, Tag Rugby, Netball, Hockey, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Dance, Ball Skills, Cricket, Athletics, Tennis, Rounders, Basketball, Cyclocross and Fencing.
As a school we love to learn outside and the PE curriculum integrates well into many other curriculum areas. Children can often be found orienteering around the school on cross curricular challenges. Or using the school grounds to aid their learning.
We are always happy to take our learning further and have even competed in local village charity fun runs.
Wotton and District Association
We are a small school but this does not stop us providing ample opportunities for the children to excel in PE and sports. As well as competing in various sporting events organised by our local authority, local secondary schools and primary schools; we are also a member of the Wotton and District Association. This inclusive and competitive Association covers a wide range of sports and gives children from Reception to Year 6 a chance to represent the school against other schools of a similar and larger size.
We have recently taken part in the following tournaments with many successes: Cross Country, Hockey, Gymnastics, District field and track activities, Swimming, Archery.
For the past few years we have been working with Forever sport
Forever Sport utilises the breadth of coaching expertise and experience available from the Bristol Sport stable of sports, their partner charities and external sporting bodies to provide a unique and comprehensive primary school physical education and sports coaching programme.
