Starting School

For families who have a child starting Tortworth School we hope that you will find out more information here and by looking at our website.

If your child is starting school for the first time in Reception then click here to go to the Early Years page.

We understand that choosing the right school for your child is a really important decision, so we aim to provide you with some of the necessary information in order to support you to make the best choice for your child .

There is a great deal of information about our school on this website but we believe the best way to get to know us is by visiting. We encourage you to visit during the school day, when you will get the best sense of what the school will feel like for your child. Unfortunately in this current Covid lockdown we are not inviting parents into school, but you will see various video clips that give an essence of what life is like here at Tortworth, plus a starting school powerpoint, above, which will give you all the initial information you need to start school here at Tortworth Primary School.

Stay and Play

In recent years we have held Stay and Play afternoon sessions during the year to give children and parents and carers a chance to get to know the school environment and staff. Obviously we have not been able to hold any recently due to COVID 19.

We hope to begin our Stay and Play afternoon sessions again during the school year 2020 / 2021 and will update you as soon as possible.

Visits

Unfortunately, at the moment you are not able to visit our school in person.

If you have any questions about starting at Tortworth Primary School or you would like to book a virtual Q and A session, please send an email to office@tortworthprimaryschool.org.uk and Clare Smith, the Wagtail Class teacher will get back in touch with you.

Ready for School

Children are all different and there is no one definition of what makes a child ready for school. There are however, a number of indicators which mean your child is well on the way to being ready.

South Gloucestershire have produced a flyer about school readiness which you can download here. Paper copies will be available for you to take away at our pre-school sessions.
